Jury Duty Continued...

So, what I though would be a very cool Friday b/c I would finally be able to do some Jury Duty actually turned out pretty anticlimactic. I called the Jury office Thursday evening to see if they called my number... Lo, and behold...ALL cases for our county had been settled out of court so NO ONE had to appear!  Very interesting!  So, I spent a pretty relaxing day doing pretty much nothing and then went to work at 4pm to work my closing shift.

No great legal thriller here, sorry!

Man Rules!

I received the following in an e-mail the other day... Much of it is very true and pretty funny too:

Here are the rules from the male side.
These are our rules!
Please note... These are all numbered "1"ON PURPOSE! They are all of equal importance!

1. Men are NOT mind readers.

1. Learn to work the toilet seat.
You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports It's like the full moon
Or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

1. Shopping is NOT a sport.
And no, we are never going to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every  question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do.  Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become Null and void after 7 Days.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are.
Don't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one.

1. You can either ask us to do something OR tell us how you want it done. Not both.
If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials..

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched.
We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing's wrong.
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine... Really.

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball.
Or golf.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

Thank you for reading this.
Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight;
But did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping.

I've Been Served!

That's right!  I have been served a Jury Summons for the Marion County Circuit Court for Dec 7th.  I have to call after 5pm the day before to see if I have to report or not.  You never know, the parties involved could settle the issue out of court.  Jury Summons 12-07-07I hope the don't!  I want to be apart of our nation's judicial system in whatever way I can.  I know I'll never be a Judge or Attorney, but being a juror is just as important.  I really enjoy reading John Grisham's best-selling legal thrillers.  Anyways, I've only had one Jury Summons before (about 4-5 yrs ago), but was disappointed when they threw the case out. I love the History of the United States and getting to possibly be a part of that history is so exciting!  I can hardly wait!  Check back sometime that weekend as I will post an update within a day or two after I report for Jury Duty.

Apologies

I want to apologize to all my readers for not posting anything for a over a month. I'm really sorry. My internet was down for at least two weeks and I've been really busy with work. Just to assure you all, though... I am working on a couple of different blogs to post. There have been some really exciting things going on in mine and my girlfriend's life lately about possibly going on a missions trip and I want you all to know about them! :-)

MONSTER PUMPKIN!

I took the following picture with my camera phone at Wal-Mart. They made a 15 foot pumpkin out of different varieties of Pepsi and Mountain Dew. I thought it was really cool. I couldn't pass up taking a picture of it.

We have a winner!

Well, here we are! I checked the poll 11 hours before it was supposed to close and noticed that I had a tie between "The Welcome Matt" and "Matt's Matters" with 5 votes each, and one vote going to "Matt's Mindless Meanderings." I thought I was going to have a recount/tiebreaker round to choose the new blog title. Well, sometime during the last 11 hours that the poll was open, someone else voted and narrowly squeaked out a win for "The Welcome Matt"!!! Congratulations are in order for Mrs Barb Love - good friend of my parents - for the winning suggestion! I want to thank you all for voting! This has been really fun! I do apologize for not promptly announcing the winner as I was so busy this last weekend, I didn't get a chance to go online and check the results. If I have not done so by the time you read this, I will shortly be changing the page to the new title and will be adding a couple of new posts. Thanks for all of your great names and thanks again for voting. I hope you all had as much fun as I did!

They Work!!

After over a year of no dashboard lights, they randomly decided to work tonite! How weird is that? I never tried to replace the lights because it was too much of a pain to take my airbag and steering wheel off and then take the dash off to get to the lights. I would just turn on the dome light occassionally to check my speed. So the lights on the left half are working but the right side is still off. Fortunately, the warning lights etc always worked...except for my gas light. :-)

Pic taken with camera phone.

THE Matt

Hi! I thought I would throw in a picture of me for those of you who haven't seen me in awhile. This was taken with my camera phone. The quality was better than I expected.

FINALLY!!!

Yes, finally, I posted my poll that I promised. Just look on the side bar under the "About Me" section. You can't miss it! Anyways, enjoy! It will be available until early on October 8th. Don't wait til the last minute or you might miss out! If it's a pretty close call between 2 or 3 of the choices, we might need to have a playoff round as well. Have fun! Keep checking back to see how your pick is doing!! If you'll notice, I also added a weather station so you can check on how much rain has dumped on me today! Seriously, though, you can check out my weather then link to where you can check the forcast for your area. I also added a place where you can subscribe to my blog via e-mail and a guestbook that I would like everyone to sign! Check them all out and let me know what you think!

Poll update!

Some of you are probably wondering: Is he ever going to put up his poll for a new name? This answer is a resounding, YES!!!! Thank you all for your patience and suggestions. I have been compiling those suggestions over the last week or so and am putting together a list of the ones I think will stand up the best to a poll. Gotta make it a little close, don't want to have too much of a landslide!! Any ways, have a great weekend y'all. I'll post that poll by the first of the week, hopefully.

New Features!

OK, here we go. I have updated my blog fairly significantly as those of you returning readers will immediately notice: I changed the whole layout style. Also, to the right, I have added local weather here in Salem, OR so you can see what the temp is like where I am. I have also added a link to my new guestbook. It would be awesome if you all would sign it! I would love to see where all my friends and family are scattered about the globe. Check out all my new features!

Blog Title Submissions

I want to apologize to those that have already voted for my blog title. I, unfortunately, did not forsee anyone else contributing possible title for my blog. Sorry, Mom! In light of this new development, I have cancelled the poll temporarily. I want everyone to be able to participate and contribute an appropriate blog title. In about a week, I will select a few that I think will be good contenders and with your voting help, we will whittle the choices down over a series of a couple of polls. If you have any other suggestions for titles please reply to this posting.

Here's what we have so far:

1. Mutterings from THE Matt

2. Matt's Mumblings

3. Matt's Malarky

4. Matt's Missles

5. Matt's Meanderings

Well, there we have it! Two contributors... who's next?

P.S. I will not be listing any more suggestions until I post the poll. Stay tuned!

Here Goes Nothing!!

Hello! Welcome to my new blog entitled, "Mutterings from THE Matt"! I created it as a way for my family and friends to take a peek into my life and see what I'm up to from day-to-day. I give you fair warning though: occassionally I may wax philosophical and write a long, drawn-out explanation of things down to the last detail. I'm weird like that sometimes...I have a great attention to detail and can remember exact conversations from several years ago (sometimes word-for-word) and can describe things or locations in great detail (almost to a fault) or I can be totally clueless about what's going on or not even pay attention to details..... but anyways there I go rambling again! I warned you! I was talking to my brother Ben as I was setting this up and we thought I could have used "Ramblings of THE Matt" or "Sir Talks Alot (aka Matt)" and given the same vibe!

Ben's contribution is the THE. He suggested it, so I used it. Not sure why other than I am THE Matt. There's not another one out there like me! Sorry, Matt and Matt, if you read this. Don't think that I think you are any less Matt-like because we Matt's are special. There's something special about us. But there's only THE Matt! :-) Just kidding! You guys were great. I loved hanging out with the "Matt/Steve Posse." For those of you who don't know, while I attended Pensacola Christian College one of the groups I hung out with consisted entirely of Matts and Steves. 3 Matts and 2 Steves. I (Matt) hung out with 2 of my best friends (Steve and Matt) who had a roommate (Steve) and a friend across the hall (Matt)! My senior year I hung out with Matt in Steve and Matt and Steve's room! Yeah we had a blast! Especially when we would go to the cafeteria or church and introduce one of our other friends to the Posse. "Hey, (insert name)! I'd like you to meet Steve and Matt and Steve and Matt! Don't worry about trying to remember our names just yell out Matt or Steve if you want our attention and one of us will answer." I always thought it would be easier for someone to remember only two names instead of five, but now that I think about it....it would almost be harder because then you wouldn't remember which Matt or Steve went to which face! Sorry! Muttering again!!

Yes, this blog is a way for my family to stay in touch with me as well, not just for my friends. I plan to update it frequently to let everyone know how things are going. I will have the option that any of you can post a comment to one of my blogs or pictures if you so desire. I will also provide an e-mail address if you need to send a more personal note or if you would like my phone number so you can drop me a line sometime. Occassionally I will be posting my own pictures and videos I find as well. I trust you all will find my posts informative as well as entertaining. Since it will probably be my primary form of communication I would hate for it to be a drag for you to come and see what I've been doing.

Well, I should sign off for now... it's almost 1:45am Pacific Standard Time here in Salem, OR so it's time for a little shut-eye. Have a good night y'all! -Matt :-)
