Statements from the Past Relevant to Freedom

I came across the following quotes in the Fall 2008 issue of the PCC Update, a magazine published by Pensacola Christian College:

• Men must be governed by God of they will be ruled by tyrants. - William Penn

• All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. - Edmund Burke

• It is impossible to enslave, mentally or socially, a Bible-reading people. The principles of the Bible are the groundwork of human freedom. - Horace Greeley

• Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is impossible that a nation of infidels or idolaters should be a nation of free men. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. - Patrick Henry

I thought these to be especially pertinent with the election in one week.
